#FlawlessFriday Five of the Best Waterproof Blues

29 Apr 2016

I love blue liner, and the flash of colour is one of the easiest ways to add brights into your makeup wardrobe. Recently I've been noticing lots of great blue pencils, with (genuinely - I've tested them all) waterproof formulas. Here are five of the best...

Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal in Bright Blue
This is the most gorgeous bright, almost neon blue. The smooth kohl pencil glides on easily and the pigment payoff is fantastic. It sets after about 30 seconds so you have a little bit of smudge time, though I love it as worn as an intense winged look (like the image of Sophie Dahl above). Available here in 6 shades.

Marc Jacobs Highliner Gel Crayon in Top Seacret
A gel liner in a pencil incarnation. This colour is a bright turquoise with a hint of fine silver shimmer - it looks amazing on all skin tones but particularly pops on olive and dark skins. There's a little more time to play with this one before it sets. Available here in 25 shades.

Lancôme Drama Liqui-Pencil in Côte D’Azur
This has all the pros of a liquid liner - intense colour payoff and a budge-proof formula - but in an (arguably) easier to apply pencil format. I like to wear this bright cobalt shade as a standalone swipe across my top lashes, teamed with lots of black mascara. Available here in 16 shades.

Sisley Phyto-Eye Twist in Lagoon
A chunky crayon that can be used as an all-over colour, eyeshadow base and for thicker lining - if you want a more precise line, use an eyeliner brush to pick up the colour and apply. This shade is a beautiful matte teal, highly pigmented and lasts really well (it sets after a couple of minutes). Available here in 12 shades.

Estée Lauder Infinite Waterproof Eyeliner in Blackened Sapphire
This shimmery, deep navy twist-up pencil is the perfect chic and modern alternative to black liner. It’s flecked with light blue, violet and silver shimmer which pops on all eye colours. I like this smudged along the waterline and under bottom lashes for an easy smokey eye with lasting power. Available here in 8 shades.

Two Ways to Wear Them...
While I don't believe in makeup 'rules' (the most important thing is to have fun and express yourself however you like), if you want a couple of ideas of makeup looks to team with blue liner, here are two tutorials that might be helpful.

If you're wearing a dramatic eye look, like winged liner or a smokey finish, balance your colour with a fresh nude makeup look. Watch how I do this in my Coloured Cat Eye film below.

If you keep your eye makeup a touch more simple, a thin line of blue just on the top lashes for example, you could try teaming it with a pop of colour on lips - I like a slightly glossy finish for a modern touch. Watch my Beach Brights Long Lasting Makeup Tutorial below for my take on this look.

Tell me if you'll be trying blue liner in the comments - and remember to send me your #MyLisaLook images X
