Yesterday I had the pleasure of making up one of my favourite clients, Kate Winslet, for the UK premiere of her hotly anticipated new film Steve Jobs. 

Kate was planning to wear a stunning one shoulder Alexander McQueen gown in ink blue and I wanted to keep her makeup equally elegant, with a touch of red carpet glamour. We decided on a chic makeup look - polished skin, classic flicked liner, lots of lashes and a sophisticated nude lip.

SKIN

I met Kate at lunchtime as she had a press conference to attend that afternoon. I didn't know how much time we would have between that and the premiere, so wanted to make sure her base looked really great and would last all day and into the evening. I applied a thin layer of Lancôme Teint Idole Ultra, buffed in to even out her skintone naturally. When we started getting ready for the premiere later on, I only freshened up with concealer.

I also used Éclat Miracle, which is the only highlighter I trust to the red carpet. I applied on cheekbones, cupid's bow (the centre of the top lip) and the centre of the nose. I freshened up with this later on too. This liquid highlighter was discontinued before my arrival at Lancôme, but as it's my holy grail I'm bringing it back very soon... watch this space!

After a dusting of powder, I applied Belle de Teint in 04 Belle de Miel along her cheekbones for a light contour, buffed and blended really well.

For cheeks, I applied Blush Subtil in Rose Sable very lightly on to the apples of the cheeks for a fresh hint of colour - I used the Suqqu Cheek Brush for this (of course) and swirled lightly so the colour felt like it was coming from within, with no visible edges.

EYES

For Kate's eyes I started by using Hypnôse Drama Eyes Palette in Brun au Naturel to subtly sculpt and add definition, without taking over from the liner. I used the colour on the left hand side of the palette all over the lid and the flat brown shade (in the middle of the palette) in the socket, blended well, to give a bit more definition. I also buffed these two shades at the outer edge of the lower lashes and used the lightest shade (on the right hand side of the palette) to highlight at the inner corners.

To line, I used Art Liner in Black, keeping it thin and fading out before the inner corner. At the outer corner I lifted and elongated the liner into a kitten flick. Once the shape was right, and while the liner was still drying, I added a smidge of the chocolate brown shade from the eyeshadow palette - this is a trick I use a lot for the red carpet to soften black liner while keeping it punchy.

Next I curled Kate's lashes, layered lots of black Grandiôse Mascara and added a set of 3/4 false lashes by D.U.P. which were quite a bit longer at the outer corner than the middle and gave the illusion of a winged eye shape.

Kate has naturally amazing brows, so I only needed to fill in with a little bit of Waterproof Eyebrow Gel in 04 Chatâin.

LIPS

I put another dash of Éclat Miracle again at the top lip before shaping Kate's lips with Contour Pro lip liner in 201 Beige Noisette and then applied the beautifully chic lipstick, Shine Lover in 218 - it was the perfect nude for Kate, and the sheer formula finished off the look to perfection. She also took this with her in her bag as it's an easy one to reapply without a mirror.

I went to preview of the movie last week - I absolutely loved it and urge you to see it. It's a fantastic film with brilliant dialogue and outstanding performances... and you will not even recognise Kate in it! X
