BAFTA Beauty Breakdown - Gemma Arterton

19 Feb 2018 - Share →

Last night I made up the sublime Gemma Arterton for the BAFTA Awards. I always love making up Gemma, she’s got such a lovely energy and really enjoys the makeup process. She was wearing an elegant black, one shoulder couture dress by Alberta Ferretti, paired with A-mazing emerald and diamond jewellery (styling by uber stylist Elizabeth Saltzman) When I saw them I knew I wanted the makeup to be chic and powerful and I always love red lips with emeralds!

Here’s my breakdown of the products used...

Skincare - Before I started, I popped on a couple of Elemis’s Pro Collagen Hydra Gel Eye Masks to hydrate and reduce any puffiness under eyes. (Sometimes I leave these on whilst applying eyeshadow - they’re great for collecting any excess dropdown.) Then prepping skin using Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentrate.

Base - I wanted the base to look polished yet natural and because Gemma already has amazing skin, I chose Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua in 20, applying thin layers and buffing out. For concealer I used Lancome’s Teint Idole Ultra Wear Camouflage Concealer in Buff (N) 215 for under-eyes and Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage in SC2 for pin point concealing.

To create a subtle glow, I used Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector in Pearl (one of my kit favourites) applying to the cheekbones and all high points and then blending and buffing with the foundation brush to create a seamless effect.

Eyes - For eyes, I prepped with NARS Pro Prime and applied a wash of neutral colour from Tom Ford's Nude Dip Eyeshadow Palette, sculpting and defining with the slightly darker shade. A quick curl of lashes using my trusty Shu Umera Curlers and then layers of Lancôme’s Doll Eyes Waterproof Mascara in Black - this is a really good mascara for red carpet, it creates a natural wide-eyed effect and doesn’t budge. I then applied Ardell Short Individual lashes to the outer corners for added flutter.

Brows - I used Suqqu's Brow Powder in 01 to create a strong but natural shape and finished them off with Glossier’s Boy Brow in Brown for added definition and to hold in place.

Lips - I wanted lips to be the ultimate statement of the look and to do this applied a light layer of Lancome’s L’absolu Rouge in Isabella and blotted. Then to define and create the shape, I used MAC’s Lip Pencil in Cherry. I then applied Isabella at the outter edges and one of my favourite lipstick shades, Lancome’s L’absolu Rouge in Idôle - a bright corally red, just to the centre of the lip for a three-dimensional pout. (To see how to achieve this lip look, click here for my tutorial.)

Cheeks - Gemma’s cheekbones are naturally incredible so I accentuated with Kevyn Aucoin's sculpting powder in Light. Finally to bring the whole look together I added a pop of Tom Ford’s Flush to the cheeks sweeping up high toward temples.

I finished with a light powder of Chanel’s powder in Translucent to set under-eyes and mattify t-zone.
