Alexa Chung - Glamour Awards - Red Carpet

04 Jun 2014 - Share →

Last night I attended the Glamour Women of The Year Awards and had the pleasure of making up the effortlessly gorgeous Alexa Chung first. Alexa had chosen to wear a beautifully chic Dior dress with sheer floral panel - totally swoony. For her make-up we decided not to stray too far from her signature look and I created a 60’s inspired soft smokey eye with vibrant pinky peach lip. As Alexa has a tan at the moment, I really worked that into the look, imagine young Jane Birkin strolling around the streets of St Tropez. Glowy, natural skin, softly smokey eye,  lots of lashes and, for a change, NO eyeliner!

Here’s how I created the look…

Skin

To boost Alexa's natural glow using Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua in number 50, highlighting with Lancôme's Eclat Miracle. I used Laura Mericer's Secret Camouflage in SC4 to conceal around the eyes and any other areas (not many as Alexa has pretty damn perfect skin!). I added a sweep of Chanel’s Loose Powder right at the end of the make-up, just to the sides of the nose.

Eyes

To create the soft, 60’s inspired smokey eye, I used Eyeko’s Me and My Shadow in Chocolate, applying it all across Alexa's eyelids in a round shape and smoking out I also smudged it along the lower lashes. To finish off I layered tonnes of Eyeko’s Eye Do Mascara in black. Working it especially well into Alexa's lower lashes to create a very separated, spiky 60's vibe.

Cheeks

I applied a light layer of Make Up For Ever’s HD creme Blush in 'Peachy Pink' to give cheeks a fresh bloom. Then to sculpt and define cheekbones, I used Kevyn Aucoin’s The Sculpting Powder in Medium.

Lips

To continue with the 60’s inspired vibe I applied Surge Lutens’ light nude Lip Pencil to define and outline. Alexa described the type of shade she imaged as her dream colour for the night and I set about mixing Illamasqua’s Lipstick in Obey, with Mac’s Morange. I seemed to hit the nail on the head as Alexa said it was exactly as she had imagined... a muted out neon orange with vintage salmon pink/peach undertones.

I thought she looked amazing, so chic and gamine. I was very happy to be sitting on her table so could cheer loudly when she picked up the award for Entrepreneur of the Year. Nice one Alexa!

Alexa's hair was styled by her usual hairdresser George Northwood
