My Favourite Skincare Products - Part One

After having oily skin as a teenager I went on to develop acne in my 20's and spent a lot of time researching ingredients and products that would help to keep my skin clear and healthy looking. Like lots of people, my skin doesn't fit into one category, its oily/combination, prone to spots, breakouts and blackheads, prone to pigmentation and unevenness, dehydrated and mature (by skincare companies standards).

My skin is really weird. I get oily in the fall and winter, but dry in the summer. I think it may have something to do with stress because of school and all. But my skin get oily during the day and it gets clogged easily and blackheads and a big red spot everyonce in a while. help? lol i also like more natural choices ( i like to pamper my skin ) and i have rather sensitive skin.

Lisa I loved this video as it was incredibly helpful to see what you use for your beautiful skin. I am a student so I am limited by my spending but I use a similar concept of gentle products like Cetaphil or Natio and in using products which have not completely stripped my skin my acne is gone and no one believes it! So glad to hear someone else say you don't have to completely strip your skin to make it glow xx

hi lisa, I'm 19 years old, I have combination skin and suffer really badly from blackheads, would you suggest this product for me? Or is it too strong? I'm worried it might damage my skin. Thanks.

BohoGreen4 - Wednesday 18th Aug 2010 8:21am

I love the carrot butter and the dr. hauschka cleansing milk - use it everyday. Have you ever tried the REN cleansing cream for sensitive skin? it seems nice as well.

orangesparkle22 - Tuesday 17th Aug 2010 1:01am

feedingthelove - Saturday 7th Aug 2010 10:13pm

This video was really helpful, every so often I get really bad spots and it gets me down a lot. From the recommendation I bought the dermalogica spot gel and it has helped my acne and blemishes amazingly, thank you so much for the recommendation Lisa! This stuff has literally changed my life (:

orangesparkle22 - Tuesday 3rd Aug 2010 1:42am

I have just discovered your videos on youtube after you watching you ever since you have been on 10 yy as i always love listening to your tips and advice on the show but you only get about 5minutes on there! i have been watching these vids alnight and they are the most enjoyable, informative tutorials i have seen. you are so talented and beautiful, thanks for sharing your makeup tips xoxo

lisaeldridgedotcom - Monday 2nd Aug 2010 11:38pm

@orangesparkle22 I really like cleansing oils, they are great for removing make-up. Like you I then like to use a regular cleanser to clean my skin x

orangesparkle22 - Monday 2nd Aug 2010 11:35pm

Hi Lisa, what do you think of cleansing oil? I have dry skin and have started using Origins clean energy cleansing oil to remove makeup, then an elemis cleanser to clean my skin xoxo

I love this video it was sooo heplful!!!! More of this vids...;-)

Great Video Lisa! This really shows people that they really need to get to know their skin, and how it changes on a day to day basis - also that you don't have to use everything from the same Brand - although in some instances ingredients can clash. I love people who love Skincare!! xx

facialtherapy - Monday 5th Jul 2010 7:32pm

Lisa I think you're great! and your Make Up Videos are really helpful. I am a facialist and would love to give you a treatment! x Julia

queenb891 - Sunday 6th Jun 2010 7:30pm

@pixi2woo of course it is. Just google it and you will find plenty. The best bargains come from France.

Sugarplum291 - Monday 31st May 2010 4:54pm

how did you clear up your acne when you had it??

KerryMarie3 - Monday 31st May 2010 3:59pm

is the dermalogica cream exfoliant similar to the daily microfoliant?

catdeluxeatday - Saturday 22nd May 2010 10:46am

Great skin care video. I do have similar skin type as yours, and it is truly difficult to find something that suits me 100%. Thank you!

maziedayz - Friday 14th May 2010 8:27am

Hi lisa :) great skin care video. I recently heard that putting raw lemon on the face can really useful because of its AHAs and BHAs. What are your comments about this? Especially for an oily t-zone?

lholowaychuk8 - Monday 10th May 2010 12:18pm

hi lisa another lisa here :) was just wondering if you could suggest a AHA or a product that lightens and helps deal with acne pigmentation, or just straight pigmentation for that matter. When i do get a spot, no matter what i do a red mark seems to persist longer than I would like. I have fairly normal skin, with a slight tendency for oiliness. Is their anything ( fairly inexpensive, student budget) that you can recommend? THANKS SO MUCH- I love love love your site. have a wonderful week L

lisaeldridgedotcom - Saturday 8th May 2010 9:20pm

@ThePau1234 my french was quite good when I was living and working in Paris but I've let it slip a lot and now its horrible! lol! I need to spend time in france again to improve x

ThePau1234 - Saturday 8th May 2010 8:40pm

It's so funny! I use eaxctly the same products as I live in Belgium! You said you lived in Paris, can you speak french? Love your videos!

merylynmagic - Thursday 6th May 2010 6:45am

Love the makeup look you have on in this video... tutorial please? Thanks and am going to try some of these great products. :)

sugarcake88 - Wednesday 21st Apr 2010 4:59pm

Hi Lisa. Great information! I went ahead and bought the Dermalogica gentle cream exfoliant based on your recommendation. Do you know if you should apply the product on dry or damp skin? This is not specified on the product information or on the website. I used it once on dry skin (that was cleansed) and didn't really feel the product worked properly. Thanks! :)

ColouredSmiles - Monday 19th Apr 2010 6:14am

i have very similar skin do you know what is the best products/treatments or regime for blackheads? xx

Tatyanak409 - Friday 16th Apr 2010 6:05pm

omg thats a looooooooooottt of products....i always have 2 cleansers at the most :/

sassyandsorted - Thursday 15th Apr 2010 10:39am

Hi Lisa, Would you say that the No7 Hot cloth cleanser is comparable to the Liz Earle one? Would it be suitable for somone with normal skin that can sometimes have dry or sensitive areas?x

Xandimaus89 - Wednesday 14th Apr 2010 10:57am

Hi Lisa, your video is really helpful, thank you so much! I also like Dermalogica products, but I just read that the lavender oil and sulfur the exfoliant contains are skin irritants and therefore bad for your skin... As I am not a skin expert :)) I would love to hear your opinion on that. Thank you so much!!! xxx

dazzling734501 - Friday 9th Apr 2010 2:07pm

can you please do a video showing us how you do your make up every day?

PeachKat - Friday 9th Apr 2010 6:21am

Can you do a tutorial on this look pretty please? You look absolutely gorgeous!!

makeupforlife100 - Sunday 21st Mar 2010 2:59pm

Hiya Lisa, I was just wondering what you generally use in the morning for your cleansing routine because I know you mentioned you don't like to strip the skin. Thankyou x

richbdd01 - Sunday 14th Mar 2010 12:43am

Hiya thanks for good tips. I use nude skincare at the moment. Have you used the miracle mask? Been Impressed, gonna ditch the scrub and use this as I also don't like anything too harsh.

xLuvindaJonasx - Wednesday 10th Mar 2010 10:14pm

I think i've seen you on tv. Have you been on tv before??

Cawolinee - Sunday 7th Mar 2010 12:18pm

I'm french and I use the Crealine H2O from bioderma. You say that it has changed its name for "sensibio" but are you sure? I've bought one yesterday and it's always "Crealine".

lisaeldridgedotcom - Thursday 4th Mar 2010 7:08pm

sofiangeletou I'm not the biggest fan of microdermabrasion full stop. I think its effect on pigmentation is minimal and its pretty harsh. I'm not doing any courses at the moment as my schedule is a bit hectic and I havent got time. Please subscribe to my website and I will let you know about any up-coming courses in the future. Thanks so much for your comment and for watching! Lisa x

lisaeldridgedotcom - Thursday 4th Mar 2010 7:02pm

Thanks! IPL success is down to the skill of the dermatologist. Its best to get a personal recommendation if you can. Always go to the top guy... they are there for a reason, they cost more but its worth it. Good luck x

natt1138 - Thursday 4th Mar 2010 6:45pm

I agree with everything that's been said - these videos are so fantastic, really informative and clear! I was wondering what you thought about IPL for thread veins? I've heard some great things but obviously there's some dubious people practicing out there. It's so hard to know who to trust!

sofiangeletou - Monday 1st Mar 2010 1:04pm

Lisa thanks so much for posting all these!! Priceless advice!! I think someone has asked you in the past, are you planning to do any workshops? I would be very interested in spending some time with you learninga bout skincare and makeup ofcourse :)) Also, what is your opinion on microdermabrasion? Especially for getting rid of pigmentation. Many many many thanks!! Sofia

mahankme - Wednesday 24th Feb 2010 9:07pm

SO GLAD you did this video Lisa!! I've got some Liz Earle products on order, hopefully to solve my dry skin problem. Wish me luck! Also thanks for pointing out about the harsh exfoliants as thats something I have been concerned about for a while now :)xxx

K8KatieK8K8 - Wednesday 24th Feb 2010 3:11pm

can't wait to see your sunscreen video! also do you have any favorite products for dry cheek/ruddy complexions?

blaire85 - Monday 22nd Feb 2010 1:09pm

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I have the same problems as you with blocked pores and also I;m no teenager either! I live in France now and like you love their Pharmacy's. I've brought the Bioderma and the La Roche Posay and they seem to be helping. I'm now on the look out for somehwere near to me that sells Dermalogica. Your videos are so imformative thank you.

melanzanify - Thursday 18th Feb 2010 11:05pm

Do you daily use a toner? I have oily skin and if I use a toner does my skin produce more oil? and could you recommend a good toner? mel xx

adoringcarmine - Saturday 13th Feb 2010 11:16pm

hi Lisa, do you have any tips on becoming so successful in the makeup industry? i absolutely adore the way you do makeup, ever since i first saw you on 10yrsyounger. thanks xxx

gzmsr88 - Saturday 13th Feb 2010 4:15pm

Salicylic acid and Beta Hydroxy Acid (BHA) is the same thing.

shelleykerr83 - Friday 12th Feb 2010 6:23pm

Hi, Check out cosmeticscop (especially the videos and see why we need a cosmeticsop) an American lady who reads the labels of skincare, cosmetics and haircare products) and also, beautypedia. Shelley

26wet - Friday 12th Feb 2010 2:39pm

2nd the Dermalogica Skin Resurfacing Cleanser. I use it a few times a week and alternate with Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel which I love. I use Precleanse before both. I'm a Dermalogica addict. I also use the Overnight Clearing gel and agree with all your comments - that stuff is amazing and works better than anything else for clearing any blemishes. I am currently using Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel - have you tried this? If so, how would you compare it to the Gentle Cream Exfoliant?

shelleykerr83 - Thursday 11th Feb 2010 7:10pm

Hi Lisa, Thank you for your videos. I agree with the salicylic acid but have you heard of beta hydroxy acid? This works great on combination skin types keeps spots at bay. After 15 years of problems with my skin, I ordered Paula's Choice 2% beta hydroxy acid in liquid form $19.95 and the results were amazing. In 3 days my skin was clear for the first time in 15 years and it has been like that ever since.

AllyCreative - Wednesday 10th Feb 2010 11:13pm

well i have very complicated skin and if i'm not informed it will get out of control :)

lisaeldridgedotcom - Wednesday 10th Feb 2010 10:37pm

@AntiCelebritynet You dont need to spend a fortune on a good, neutral and gentle cleanser or on a nice oil free hydrating lotion but I would invest in a really good exfoliating treatment. x

lisaeldridgedotcom - Wednesday 10th Feb 2010 10:30pm

@AllyCreative Ha Ha! I LOVE this comment, made me laugh so much. Skincare addiction is a good illness to have!

lisaeldridgedotcom - Wednesday 10th Feb 2010 10:29pm

@melanzanify its a combination of the thorough cleansing, a treatment/exfoliant (like the gentle cream exfoliant or Vacumm cleaner) and then a salicylic night time treatment to keep them at bay.

cupcake11092 - Wednesday 10th Feb 2010 8:36pm

@pixi2woo It is! I just ordered a bottle off of Amazon...but if you google it you will find plenty of websites that sell it.

lunarnebulus - Wednesday 10th Feb 2010 2:24pm

Hi lisa, I found this video so helpful, its made me realise that its much more important to be gentle with skin than use harsh products could be damaging longterm, and you`ve made some great skincare recomendations that I shall certainly try thankyou very much :) x

pixi2woo - Wednesday 10th Feb 2010 12:42pm

Hi Lisa, do you know if it's possible to buy the Bioderma Sensibo online? x

plushtea - Tuesday 9th Feb 2010 10:41pm

Oh, I love your philosophy on skincare. I have a very similar skintype and use very similar stuff! Too many beauty people/writers/youtubers on the internet use way too many harsh things, they should listen to you!

melanzanify - Tuesday 9th Feb 2010 7:34pm

so which product of these would you recommend to get the blackheads out?

melanzanify - Tuesday 9th Feb 2010 6:45pm

thanks for this video! you look so beautiful =)

AllyCreative - Tuesday 9th Feb 2010 2:49pm

this kind of videos are like crack to me :) can't get enough. skincare is my biggest fetish. thank you so much for such an educated explanation of everything. I really like what you said about lactic acid and i want to explore it.

AntiCelebritynet - Tuesday 9th Feb 2010 12:18pm

Me too! I'm 25 with the skin of a teenager and still tend to use clearskin teenage type products. Maybe it's time to take a gentler approach... Lisa, what do you think we should splurge and save on, skincare and makeup? Thank you x

mgparis - Tuesday 9th Feb 2010 12:20am

thanks so much for ALL of your videos and advice! as I commented before, I've been enjoying your work in UK magazines for years, and you're as beautiful and charming as you are talented :)

xparfum - Monday 8th Feb 2010 8:47pm

@281080pb I have this skin type and I use Neutrogena gentle foaming cleanser and it's really good at removing makeup and gently cleansing the face. It's cheap too!

xparfum - Monday 8th Feb 2010 8:45pm

I have the same type of skin as you (except I'm 22) and I will surely look for that exfoliating cream! thanks!

moodeve - Monday 8th Feb 2010 8:37pm

Yay! Someone else raving about Dermalogica's Gentle Cream Exfoliant! I did a vid review of it too - and it does everything that you say. It's a staple for me. I use their MultiVitamin Power mask like you use the Darphin one after as well!

whiteube - Monday 8th Feb 2010 7:59pm

brilliant..i want to buy everything...love your nail color too..

stellarstrawberry19 - Monday 8th Feb 2010 7:41pm

can't wait for part 2! Have you seen pixiwoo's channel? Sam also swears by bioderma and buys in bulk from france and keeps it in her kit! that now clocks up 2 of my fave M/As using it! btw, thanks for all the advice about lactic acid! I have dry skin and always use exfoliators that scrub to remove the dry patches and all it does is make my face sting when I apply moisturiser after.

bubblegarms - Monday 8th Feb 2010 7:23pm

great informative video! that dermalogica exfoliator seems nice, I will look into it as I am on the hunt for a good exfoliator that doesn't scratch my face! X

angiejacobsrs - Monday 8th Feb 2010 7:07pm
