I'm absolutely in love with everything about these shots by photographer Ben Weller for this months Vogue UK. The issue (with Lana Del Ray on the cover), also features an insightful interview with Gemma who has no less than three movies set for release this year. Gemma is one of the most beautiful and talented young actresses working today, I love doing her make-up because shes also one of the nicest. One of those natural beauties that looks equally good without a scrap of make-up on (dont you hate her now!) we decided to do a tough, 'rock chick' look with a hint of a 60's vibe as it worked well with the fierce styling. The look above was a deconstructed smokey eye, I wanted it to look kind of messed up and lived in.... and for the top shot, I added shine to the liner and an exaggerated, graphic black liquid line just above the socket area. Combined with a touch of light base - i love Gemmas freckles - and a pale lip I think this look works well. We shot these pics in super quick time as Gemma was due on set of her latest project but sometimes everthing just comes together so perfectly through team effort that a little magic is created!
To read Gemma's interview and see the pics first hand get the March issue of Vogue UK.

i have always had what i feel are dented and dark under eye area so any makeup under my eye aside from concealer seems to exagerate it and make me look like death. are there any particular products to us just in that crease, area that really work without making it look like i'm loaded down with makeup? the no makeup look is in full swing here in portland, OR but i can't quite get away with it with those things :( LOVE your work!

Elzabel - Monday Feb 20th 2012 7:26pm
I love this look with everything looking a bit messy except the liner. Did the stylist carefully and artfully arrange the hair to look like that? I always wonder about the effort it takes to look like you just don't care:)
Emma - Monday Feb 20th 2012 7:26pm
Looks fantastic. I work on a make up counter and always use your tutorials and tips and have given your website address to all the other girls on other counters, such an inspiration! And given in such a friendly, down to earth way!

luiza - Sunday Feb 19th 2012 8:33pm
what do think about the frankly scarlet blush from mac, you think it would be kind of hard to wear it?
Ca - Sunday Feb 19th 2012 7:02pm
Unbelievable! This is kind of the look of my dreams. I would love it if you made a tutorial on this. Love your work! xox
Helen Papanagiotou - Sunday Feb 19th 2012 4:33pm
This is fantastic. It does bring out a lot of expression which is what I like with actresses as opposed to models. It reminds me a bit of the Cheryl Cole smokey look you did a while back. plus in the second picture I thought it was you initially! How I would love to see you model for vogue but I know that's not how the industry works. Maybe they could a feature on the most influential make up artists of the last twenty years.
Lisa Eldridge - Sunday Feb 19th 2012 2:24pm
@Sarah beige toned or off white pencil looks so much nicer in the waterline than pure white. Make Up For Ever make one X @Jackie thats nice to hear X
Sarah - Sunday Feb 19th 2012 12:06pm
Totally random question, sorry! Is there an eyeliner colour I can use in the water line of my eye thats a little less dramatic than white, but will still make my eyes appear bigger? Oh- and did I mention that I'm absolutely in love with Gemmas wonderful freckles? Love youre work! xo
jackie - Sunday Feb 19th 2012 11:53am
i love this look - pretty but edgy at the same time. it'd be great to see a tutorial, please. i'm in my mid-forties and i don't think i've ever done my make up as well as i do now and it's thanks to you x
Lisa Eldridge - Sunday Feb 19th 2012 11:17am
@kim the TF contour and highlight is available in two shades the darkest of which should work for African American skins as I noticed its pretty dark. Are you able to go and test it out at a counter ..... best to try before you buy as that stuff doesnt come cheap haha! X @me I have quite a few tutorials for smokey eyed looks which show how to do eyebrows covers blemishes etc too. Most people need all of that so dont worry lol! X
me - Sunday Feb 19th 2012 11:03am
beautiful and strong!! i love smokey eyes :) How can i do this with less natural beauty available (dark circles, strange triangular shaped eyebrows, small eyes, red scruffy spots, acne, unsymmetrical face,...) ?
Rola - Sunday Feb 19th 2012 1:35am
Gorgeous makeup. She is stunning!
kim - Sunday Feb 19th 2012 1:32am

Stunning!!!Please do a video on this look! Lisa, could you please recommend a brush to use with MUFE Aqua Creams? I don't like sticking my fingers in the pot. I bought the no 16 and love the colour, but I can't find a brush to work with it. It is applying either to blotchy or it is to sheer..Thank you!

Lisa Eldridge - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 7:43pm
@francesca I used the Tom Ford contour and highlight palette (I use it in my boyish beauty tutorial). It expensive but I find it works like a dream when well blended X
Johanne - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 7:42pm
Beautiful!
Lisa Eldridge - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 7:40pm
@michelle I never cover freckles, I think they are beautiful! I have a few videos on here of girls with freckles .... Dramatic 'Cat Eye' Liner and Greensmoke Glittery Eyes. Keep the base natural and then just add a touch more coverage where its needed for blemishes and undereye etc X
Kali Jay - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 6:42pm
Wonderful like always lisa...
piedradiana@hotmail.com - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 6:14pm

Lucy - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 5:54pm
i LOVE this. I'd love to see a tutorial on it, in particular the deconstructed smokey/60s eye - how do you get that line of eyeliner right? Thank you!
michelle - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 5:38pm
I love that you didn't cover her freckles. How do you avoid concealing freckles when you are trying to also conceal dark circles under the eyes without it looking like raccoon eyes? I'd love to see more tutorials with freckles not being covered up! Thanks :)
Eve - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 5:14pm

Just saw the film "The Parent Trap" with beautiful Natasha Richardson as the mom. She was so chick and sophisticated and absolutely adorable in that film, so could you do a tutorial on that? That would also be a good makeup for the office.
Lisas little monster - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 2:58pm
Please could you do a tutorial on how to deal with pale skin! I am uber uber pale and have battled with it for years. xx
francesca - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 2:49pm

Gemma is amazing, I love her as an actress! Could you do a tutorial on this look, Lisa? Please :)
Lisa Eldridge - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 12:36pm
@Amy i know what you mean sometimes the dark circles can make the smokey eye just look even bigger! Its best to lift the under eye shadow a little if its quite low down on the bone otherwise the area will look more sunken. On a good note though ... smokey eyes can help to disguise some of the darkness under the eyes. A little darkness under the eyes is no bad thing anyhow! X
Leyla - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 12:30pm
Absolutely breathtaking - Gemma and the make-up!
Amy - Saturday Feb 18th 2012 12:29pm
Wow I love this!! I would love be able to carry this look off but find it quite scarey to do a smokey eye! Please can you do a tutorial on this look? Also I wondered if it is hard to pull off a smokey eye if you suffer with very dark under eye? Odd question but sometimes I find this the case on myself and not sure why?! Xxx
