Maybe I should start using a pair of dividers for my tutorials! I found this pricelss 'tutorial' yesterday when Pathe uploaded it to their 'Vintage Archive' youtube channel. I'm a massive fan of Pathe films. They have the most comprehensive, fabulous archives stetching back over a centuary so you can really get a sense of how things were.
There are some classic lines which i'm thinking of adopting .... "Its all rather touching dont you think?" ; )
Enjoy!

Hi Lisa, i really loved the video its very interesting. It would be so also nice if you could make a comparison tutorial between for instance the correct way to contour and the wrong way in matter of results or when applying blusher which I always feel that I'm personally doing it wrong. Thanks a lot!

very interesting :). I have found maybe the same theory of this video in the Westmore beauty book (1950 or something like that) and it is somehow the basis of the make up Hollywood actresses of the golden age worked with to 'study' their faces and 'improve' them using make up.It was a corrective make up based on geometry.I have seen your video on Marilyn Monroe make up and maybe this teory can help to understand some of her secrets=corrective make up 'strategies'. Thank you, Lisa :)

So nice to see such interesting titbits among the great tutorials, which I always enjoy tremendously, even if I'm never going to try the look. Thank you.

I need one of those measuring tongs… just kidding! I loved the video; what we won’t do for the perfect anything. The bad makeup and the good … I have a hard enough time with remembering to Blend. Thanks for sharing. xOx

@cassandra full daylight is the best lighting. It's harsh and shows all imperfections. My mantra is if it looks good in daylight it'll look good in every light. If its already dark before you apply your make-up for an evening out just use the brightest light you have in the house. So pleased you like my site so much, thanks! X

I aim to work in "where is that cat?" and "it's all rather touching isn't it?" into my vobabularly at least once a day. Fab!
Cassandra - Friday Feb 3rd 2012 11:52am
Lisa, I adore every single one of your posts. Despite having learned a lot about make-up over years of experimentation (ahem, I started early... ;-)) and through your incredibly inspiring videos, I am still TOTALLY baffled with the question of make-up and lighting. Does an ideal type of lighting exist when it comes to make-up application, or are there any do's and dont'ts with regards to applying make-up in different kinds of light? All the best!!

Hysterical! What was he planning on doing with that forehead "face triangle" ?!
vonnie - Friday Feb 3rd 2012 1:10am
i so love seeing vintage things like this, even if i don't get what the heck they were going for lol
Fiona - Friday Feb 3rd 2012 12:41am
I'm baffled and enthralled by this. What, exactly, do the measurements mean??? Why make a triangle? 'Outer limit' of what??? None of it makes sense and it's FABULOUS! Also love painting the lips straight from the bullet like that... any idea on when lip brushes became more popular?

Lisa Eldridge - Thursday Feb 2nd 2012 10:54am
@Ossska where indeed is that damn cat??? hahaha x Bianca nothings changed since ancient Greece... when it comes to faces symmetry is king. Although thankfully these days a little character and individuality is appreciated (except for in L'oreal ads of course!) X
eloise - Thursday Feb 2nd 2012 10:53am
hi lisa, would LOVE an angelina jolie tutorial. I know you dont do many celeb tutorials but a general talk on her...skin, makeup etc. would be fab. How is her skin so AMAZING and flawless. THanks xx
Ottska - Thursday Feb 2nd 2012 10:47am
Where IS that cat?
Bianca P - Thursday Feb 2nd 2012 10:44am
Do you by any chance have more of these gems? It's amazing to see that even then they had so many techniques & uniformity & symmetry were thought to be so important. That hasn't changed. People still want perfection when it comes to face-shapes & symmetry.
kara - Thursday Feb 2nd 2012 10:41am
Love it! x
Thursday Feb 2nd 2012 10:41am
Hahaha! I love these tutorials. There are similar around for clothes and they are so sweet! Thanks for sharing! Now I want to draw triangles on my friends'faces!

Bianca P - Thursday Feb 2nd 2012 10:33am
Awesome! Thank you for posting this, Lisa! xo
Lisa Eldridge - Thursday Feb 2nd 2012 10:32am
@FitznBitz its very funny how nothing is really explained here .....just stated! Lol x
FitznBitz - Thursday Feb 2nd 2012 10:25am
This is so interesting. So much more than "just make up" that so many people speak of. Fantastic learning experience to see how things were done in the past and how things have changed; or indeed stayed the same!
