Gallery Update - Girl Crush Clemence

Thursday 26th Jan 2012 11:36am - Comments (57) - Back to the blog

The first time I worked with Clemence Poesy a few years ago I thought she was just the bee’s knees. Something about the easy Parisian style, delicate colouring and twinkle in her eye. I've seen Clemence quite a bit recently, doing her make-up for this shoot and then bumping into her again last week as she was in town promoting Birdsong. Almost twenty years since it was first published, Sebastian Faulks book has finally been made into a film for the BBC starring Eddie Redmayne and Clemence. I missed the first installment of this epic tale so need to have a big catch up session on i-player as soon as possible! Did any of you see it?

This very cute shoot for UK Glamour focused on a palette of candy coloured, girly dresses so I didn’t want to get too saccharin with the make-up. Working with her natural colouring of golden skin, icy blue eyes and that incredible 'cafe au lait' blonde mane I mixed my pinks with warm golden peach highlights and added natural 'just bitten' effect stained lips. Some of the products used to create her look:

Chantercaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturiser in Glow

Clinique Airbrush Concealer in 04

Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal

Chanel Eyeshadow Quartet in Kasia Beige (mainly the medium golden tone with touches or the medium brown shade along the lash line and underneath. The lightest highlighter shade was also used at the inner corner and browbone)

No7 Vital Brights Cream Blusher in Blossoming Pink for cheeks

Eyeko Skinny Brush in Black

Bobbi Brown Rouge Pot Pink Truffle as a stain on the lips

Mac Face and Body Make-up in C3 for legs (in was cold that day!)

Kathi - Sunday Feb 5th 2012 7:36pm

hi lisa! do u prefer the new invisible fluid make up from el or the vitalumiere aqua from chanel? and why?? vitalumiere aqua always seemed to dewy/greasy looking for me when i tried it... (i have combination skin which gets a little shiny but also has some dry patches) would love to hear ur opinion! xx

Silvia Qurós - Saturday Feb 4th 2012 12:45pm

Great I love the pictures! very very nice as always

Mrig - Tuesday Jan 31st 2012 5:25pm

hi i am from india and have been following your blog for the longest time. i have heeded to your advice with great results i.e. Bourjois healthy mix foundation, no scrubbing face with exfloliators and sunscreen. i love the Kirsten Dunst - Red Carpet look. the eyeshadow is bold but you make anything look natural. can you please do a tutorial on the look? also please make some more skin care videos using natural/organic products found at home. a lot of brands you mention are not available here. thank you

jackie - Tuesday Jan 31st 2012 3:23pm

it would be really lovely to see a tutorial of this look - so french, fresh and pretty xx

Jeanette - Monday Jan 30th 2012 8:58pm

You are my favourite treat, when I want to indulge in personal me-time and just relax! (Tutorials are the best though :-))

Nicola M - Monday Jan 30th 2012 5:39pm

She isn't bad, Lisa.. let's face it - she's young. But, comparing the photo of her, alongside the one of you to the left of my screen - you FAR outshine her (personlity, inteligence AND looks!!) More mature women, like yourself (who still hold a candle to girls half their age!) should be represented in fashion magazines. It's crazy, really, when the older generation of ladies have the incomes to fund such costumes and make-up, whereas teenagers just don't have, and you rarely see women over 34 (like myself) in shoots. Great blog and videos anyway! tc x

Evelyn - Monday Jan 30th 2012 12:36am

Lisa, I was wondering, have you worked with male celebrities for shoots? What does their makeup process usually involve? Is it something that could be replicated and unnoticeable if used for weddings, etc.?

lisafan - Sunday Jan 29th 2012 2:51pm

TUTORIAL PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!x

Isabella - Sunday Jan 29th 2012 3:18am

Congratulations Lisa. I love your blog!! Can you help me. I am in doubt what tone of touche eclat to choose. It has to be like the concelear or lighter? Thanks

MargaretJune - Saturday Jan 28th 2012 11:21am

Hi Lisa, absoltely love this post! i have one question :do you like Jouer tinted moisturiser ?

Lorna J - Friday Jan 27th 2012 11:40pm

BirdSong was absolutely mesmorzing, I kept thinking about it for ages after I watched it. I can't wait for the second part this Sunday. Eddie Redmayne has cheekbones to die for! Thanks for the blog about the products used on Clemence Poesy, I will definitely be buying Glamour magazine now.

Donna - Friday Jan 27th 2012 11:00pm

I had the magazine last weekend and liked her make up so much I looked for the name of the make up artist....I wasn't surprised it was Lisa! It's a gorgeous look, I would love to get that rosy glowing look for myself, that looks so natural but has a lovely colour...I shall be buying the blusher soon :)(will have to save for the other products)xx

Marta - Friday Jan 27th 2012 10:20pm

I plan to buy Becca Shimmering through the internet, please let me know whether besides the color is the difference in the formulation or gloss appearance between pearl and opal.I would be very grateful for your response.M.

Victoria - Friday Jan 27th 2012 7:55pm

Wow, love this look Lisa. Beautifully done, as always. Any chance of a video? :)

Adrienne - Friday Jan 27th 2012 4:48pm

Thank you, Lisa for your info re. availability of No 7 Blush in U.S. It is such a shame but let's hope they'll change that! I have a mature skin and I gravitate more towards cream blushers. I must agree that Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge can be a bit too sticky/streaky and not the smoothest. Sorry to double post, I blame it on my computer!

Julia - Friday Jan 27th 2012 4:44pm

I second alissa's request, could you do a video of this look please? Especially the eyes. I was looking at the Kaska Beige quad as well..I have green eyes, do you think it would suit dark green eyes as well? Clemence is stunning and a such brilliant actress and I love Birdsong--can't wait for Sunday and part 2!

Marian - Friday Jan 27th 2012 4:32pm

She looks amazing... her hair and clothes... really cool. myownfashionfreedom.blogspot.com

Lisa Eldridge - Friday Jan 27th 2012 12:51pm

@Adrienne probably not. They very rarely take the Limited Editions preferring to stick with the basic line. Its a shame because the LE's tend to include more interesting formulations etc as they are a good way of testing out new technology. The colours are generally more fun too. Lets hope they change that soon! X

Elke - Friday Jan 27th 2012 8:44am

amazing!! love your work... can you teach this? please :)

Adrienne - Friday Jan 27th 2012 6:04am

Hi Lisa, Absoltely love post with Clemence, she definitely has that je ne sais quoi quality. Will the No 7 Blush be available in the U.S? Thanks!

When I saw these photos last week I thought it might be your work! Do you think you could do a video on Clemence's look? Thank you!

Sandie - Friday Jan 27th 2012 3:25am

She's so adorable! We don't see enough of her here in America. And I absolutely love those clothes in the article! I wish I looked that nonchalant in dresses, LOL!

Lisa I'm always happier when I see there is a new post on your website. You inspire me so much, I can't help but admire and love you. Kisses from Brazil

Lisa Eldridge - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 11:36pm

@Alana I havent tried the RBR one but on your recommendation I definitely will thanks x @Amelia i will! Loved the book x @Bee I'm amazed it hasnt been a film laready. I thought Spielberg would have got his hands of it years ago x @Violeta you have to make a mixture /concoction of concealer colours that lift just enough without being fake looking. I will do a video soon about this as my theory is too long to write here. The last video I made on the subject had to be scraped due to being feature film length lol! X

Amelia - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 10:03pm

You must catch up on Birdsong on iPlayer. It was incredible. Clemence is just beautiful (so is Eddie redmayne for that matter!) and they have the most amazing chemistry. One of my favourite books and I was not disappointed! Hope you enjoy! xxx

ATBMS - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 8:44pm

Such an amazing make-up artist! You are my inspiration. http://www.allthingsbeautymake-upandshopping.blogspot.com

Alena - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 7:54pm

Funny you should use Chantecaille Just Skin in the look. It's on my shopping list at the moment, as I've finished my Rouge Bunny Rouge tinted moisturiser. I am curious about JS, what it's going to be like (my skin is not unlike yours Lisa), but so far RBR is my personal 'holy grail.' I can't recommend it highly enough. And for a tinted moisturiser, it's got a very decent coverage I have to say! x

Lin0ute - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 7:31pm

the mix of products sounds great... a tutorial coming soon ?! :)

Bee - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 7:25pm

I love this look Lisa. I was so excited to hear it was being made for the BBC, as I studied the book at A level. Clemence and Eddie are great castings for Isabelle and Stephen. Although I think someone should definately make it into a film! xxx

Solange - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 6:56pm

ugh, I would buy all of those clothes! it's a beautiful spread, and beautiful makeup as usual :) Lisa, can I ask you what highlighter you used for the Marilyn Monroe video? I was flabbergasted with the effect and it's not on the product list... thank you

MARGARET - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 5:45pm

hi lisa, you are brilliant.I like one beautiful valentino skirt and think what team will be perfect for that?think a lot and decided that make up from your beautiful springy video "bright pastels" is best team for that look. Can`t find this, no vidio no skirt haha.my english is very bed sorry, but i love you and your videos.big kiss from Russia

karine - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 5:29pm

Hi Lisa, i'll be very interested too by your answer to Violeta's first question on freckled skin and dark circles (which turned to be blue, to violet, a real bother everyday). I'am sure you have really good tips on that, as you always have. One can learn much with your videos, I should say, and you have many followers in France.

Gerri - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 5:25pm

Yay Clemence! And I love Just Skin as well, so happy it's finally in a look! Maybe a tutorial? (Please?)

Violeta - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 5:00pm

Lisa, I have a quick question : on freckled skin, with pink undertones, I almost never use foundation on my models- this type of skin is almost perfect 90% of the time, however I always have difficulty covering their dark circles. Under eye circles on this type of skin are always a strange color , mostly it's because they skin is thin and you can see a bit of the blog vessels..Any thoughts on products/techniques for this issue? THANK YOU :-) xo Violeta www.violetartistry.com

Bippy - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 4:58pm

I was so blown away by your marilyn film - loved this post x

Violeta - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 4:45pm

Started my day beautifully reading your blog!!! :-) BTW, the BB pot rouges are discontinued for the moment - she is working on a new formula for them! how great is that? :-)) Thank you Lisa! Now I'm off to my own shoot with a smile on my face :-) xo Violeta

Laura - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 3:24pm

@Lisa Eldridge Thank you for the comment, the BB looks fab on the lips. I think I'll have to look out for the No7 cream blush though! :)

Lisa Eldridge - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 3:23pm

@Lorna thanks for asking, I realized I hadnt made it clear on the blog so have updated now. It was the Bobbi Brown Pot Rouge in pink truffle X

Lorna - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 3:14pm

hi lisa, i was wondering what lipstick you used? thanks Lorna xoxo

Lisa Eldridge - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 3:05pm

@Laura no only on the lips. I used a softer more blendable cream blush on the cheeks. As much as i do like the BB ones the formulation hasn't changed for years and they can take a bit of working in X

Laura - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 2:31pm

This looks brilliant! I think I need to experiment a bit more with my Bobbi Brown Rouge Pot Pink Truffle, it does not look as good as this on my cheeks! Or have you used it on the lips? Thank you for showing this look :)

Kay - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 1:58pm

Would love to see a tutorial on this look...the effortless chic look will be perfect for spring. J'adore!!

Lisa Eldridge - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 1:45pm

@bec_06 its a really nice, simple tinted moisturiser which gives an even look without sitting on top of the skin in any way. You still need a little concealer but I find it one of the best as the shades are good. I do prefer it to LM and BB ones as I find it more beautifying to the skin. Lisa X @Lucy W oh the book is great. I read it when it first came out as everyone was talking about it. It was so engaging and got me interested in the first world war (something I hadnt been before). I'm not selling it very well am I haha! Seriously its a real page turner, you care about the characters so much! Lisa X

Lucy W - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 1:38pm

I have such a crush on Clémence! I think she's lovely. I've never read Birdsong but I've always heard great things about it so I sat down and watched their adaptation on Sunday. I thought it was really good. To be honest, Clémence and Eddie Redmayne have such interesting, beautiful faces that even if the story was rubbish I still think it would be very watchable. Thankfully, the story's great and both Clémence and Eddie are fantastic in it. She's gorgeous, and the make up's beautiful Lisa!

bec_o6 - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 1:26pm

Lisa, what do you think of the Chantercaille Just Skin? I am thinking of buying it but curious if you think it's worth the money? Thanks so much xo

Florence - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 1:21pm

Wonderful.. As always!Love your work.. And I would love to see a more detailed how-to on Clemence!

Pixi - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 12:31pm

love it! As always, Lisa, you are the best and true inspiration! Admire you very much!

Lisa Eldridge - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 12:25pm

@Ana blend it really well with two hands and then allow it to dry before dressing as it contains a film former which once set really doesn't come off on clothes. Of course its not 100% guaranteed but with careful dressing I've never had it come off on any of the amazing clothes I've worked with. Lisa x

Ava - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 12:13pm

I also love Clemence, she is just so effortlessly chic! A true style and beauty icon. Keep up the good work Lisa, Love all your blogs and videos!! x

Ana - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 12:09pm

Fantastic!!! As always ;) i have one question: Is the Face and Body transfer to the clothes? I'm afraid of using when models wear clothes from designers... thanks! xx

Ewa-Anna - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 12:03pm

Well done, Lisa! Your work is splendid! I love reading your blog, watching your tutorials... I just love you!

Ava - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 12:02pm

I also love Clemence, she is just so effortlessly chic! A true style and beauty icon. Keep up the good work Lisa, Love all your blogs and videos!! x

Sarah Mac - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 12:00pm

She is so beautiful. I read Birdsong four years ago on holiday and I couldn't put it down. I watched it on iPlayer this week and it is well worth a watch. She plays Isabelle so well! Lovely make up as always Lisa xx

Katie G - Thursday Jan 26th 2012 11:53am

I love Clemence! I also love the shoot you did on her for Vogue especially the really pale nude lipstick you used which i bought and love! This shoot is very pretty. I missed Birdsong but friends who saw it said it was great. I'll be i-playering too. Keep up the good work Lisa my confidence is booming since I got to grips with make-up through reading and watching you here. Love you Xxox
