This week saw the European Premiere of the new Sherlock Holmes movie in London's Leicester Square. I was thrilled to be making up fantastic Brit actress Kelly Reilly, one of the films leading ladies. Kelly has appeared in many films including the first Sherlock movie, Eden Lake and Pride & Prejudice.
I just love her amazing red hair and icy blue eyes, perfect for a smudgy smokey eye. Kelly asked me to use her favourite eyeshadow Dior's Ultra Violet to create the soft and messy, smokey eyed look she prefers. I hadnt used this shadow before but found it to be a total winner for bringing out her eyes. The base of the shadow is matte black shot through with large violet pearl to give an iridescent effect.
After using Chanel's Vita Lumiere Aqua foundation in No.50 sparingly so's not to cover Kellys skin (and fabulous freckles), I buffed Macs paintpot in Blackground all over the eyelids lightly as a base for the eyeshadow. Next I worked the sooty ultra violet shadow over the paintpot bringing it up and out slightly at the outer corners. I then smudged it along the lower lashes to create a soft cloud of smoke. Next I used Macs Fluidline in Blacktrack along the lower waterline and through the upper lash roots, smudging well.
Cheeks were given a soft bloom with Make Up For Ever HD blush in Light Rosewood and Dr hauschkas bronzer was used to shape and define Kelly's killer bone structure.
Lips were incredibly simple with a a layer of No7's Nude pencil follwed by a light dab of MUFE HD blush in Cassis (a rich red berry shade) as a stain.
I love making up redheads as you can really have fun harmonizing the colours. The slightest hint of colour shows up and reacts immediately with red hair which is why I felt Kelly choice of the violet/black shadow worked so well. The photo below is a little blown out with flash but I hope you get the general idea and like the look X

Beautiful, Lisa! Absolutely beautiful! I noticed others requested a redhead tutorial, so I wanted to say that I am a redhead, too, but with very cool undertones to my pale skin. Picking colors can be exhausting! If you ever did do a tutorial, I just ask that you stick some info in there for cool-toned redheads like me!

Hi Lisa- I would love a tutorial on make-up for different eye shapes too. I am lucky to have great skin genes but also hooded/droopy eye ones. I absolutely love your videos. Have only just found them and you have inspired me and have already changed my look so much. Have had loads of compliments. Love this red carpet look. Happy New Year! x

I also would love love love you to do a tutorial for redheads. I think we have a bit of a harder time tailoring looks to suit our colouring. Thx!

I love this make-up look. Please consider doing a tutorial. As a redhead with fair skin I would have never considered using blackground paintpot on myself. Using a violet colour shadow to warm it up and make her eyes pop really works. As a redhead I do find working with colour difficult.

Hi Lisa, I think you may have mentioned that you were thinking of doing tutorials on different eye shapes? I've been having trouble with how far to smudge/extend the colour out at the corner of the eye. I have pretty round eyes and I seem to either a) go too far out to the point it looks silly, or b) the outside corner colour gets lost when I open my eyes. I can't seem to get a happy medium where it looks right! :( I find that when I watch your videos I'll see a certain tip / trick that I haven't seen before and I'll go away and try it out and be amazed with the results - so any tips I could pick up on this would be so much appreciated! :)x (PS - sorry for the novel!)

Kelly is a gorgeous girl. She was absolutely ethereal in Pride & Prejudice. As a fellow redhead with blue eyes I have made notes of this look and added a few items to my shopping list! Your work as always is simply stunning!

Delphine - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 9:11am
Hi Lisa! I love how your makeup looks (for red carpet or other events) let the natural beauty shine through. We first notice how much Kelly is stunning, before her makeup; not the other way around. This e/s is indeed perfect!
zahra - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 8:03am

Wow she is beautiful! Lovely makeup as always Lisa. :)
Zuzana - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 1:24am
i love how classy and effortless you always make it, unlike other makeup artists who only pile on a ton of make-up with huge fake lashes making women look like clowns lol
Lisa Eldridge - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:55am
@catherine Oops forgot about that ... will do it tomorrow : ) X
Sara - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:55am

catherine mct - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:51am
This is a beautiful look! The violet in the outer corner of her eyes sets off her hair and also the gown colour. Gorgeous! Lisa, I have been watching for the products used on the Vanessa Redgrave blog entry. Will they be posted? Thank you.
Angelina AriSatomi - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:42am

@Aoife oh please dont apologise, your grammer is good ...I'm the queen of typos! X @flyavsted I was very impressed with it, hadnt used it before ... its a beautiful colour x
Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:37am
I first saw Kelly Reilly in a french film called "The Spanish Apartment." I was not only struck by her regal beauty but her incredible, real acting talent. She's great, and as always, you did a fabulous job making her greater!!! xoxo
flyavsted - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:31am
Would love a tutorial on this look. Had to order Ultra Violet. Looks gorgeous!
Aoife - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:29am
@Lisa Thanks so much for the reply. Will have a look at the Suqqu brow products so. Also apologies for my poor grammar in my previous post in regards to the word "her's". It's been a long day. Meant to type hers.
Lisa Eldridge - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:12am
@Aoife ooh yes I did...I used one of the Suqqu powder brow palettes mixing together a little grey and ashy light brown. I was very light handed so they didnt over power. Strong brows with a dark smokey eye can be too much and make it all look a bit old fashioned. Suqqu (and other Japanese brands) make the best brow products imo X
Aoife Collins - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:05am
Hi Lisa, gorgeous makeup as always. Just want to know if you used anything on her brows as my hair is pretty much the same shade as her's and I have the hardest time finding a pencil/shadow colour to fill in my brows. Would appreciate any suggestions.
ciara - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:05am
wow so beautiful
Melanie - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:04am
I love it! Would you consider giving us a tutorial on how to do it? Since watching your videos, I get more compliments on my makeup all the time. You are the best!
Lisa Eldridge - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:03am
@Nicole yes I did, the flash blows it out a little though. I applied it incredibly thinly though, almost like you would a tinted moisturiser because her skin was naturally good and I didnt want to cover her freckles and natural luminosity X @Diane thank you x
Alex - Tuesday Dec 13th 2011 12:02am
The look is fab, her eyes are amazing. Great work x
Nicole - Monday Dec 12th 2011 11:58pm
Lisa, did you really use shade 50 on her? She looks so fair!
Diana Lupulesc - Monday Dec 12th 2011 11:58pm
