Gallery Update - Gemma Arterton for the Red Carpet

On top of a ridiculously busy week of shoots last week, I managed to squeeze in four red carpet make-ups too (it didnt look as though it would work on paper but miraculously it all sllpped into place perfectly!) I'll try to update my gallery later this week with the others, but first up is the amazingly beautiful Gemma Arterton.

I did Gemma's make-up for Glamour Magazine's Women of The Year Awards where she took the Best Film Actress award for her many roles in films like Prince of Persia, Clash of the Titans, Tamara Drewe, St. Trinians and many more. Everyone was thrilled for her, as apart from being a huge talent she's also one of the most genuine people in the industry and it's always a pleasure to work with her.

The brief was a dewy, pared down 'no make-up' make-up look and suited Gemma perfectly as her skin is absolutely flawless anyway!

Products I used were:

Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua Foundation  - Mixture of No's 10 and 20 (no powder)

Fushion Beauty - Under eye Concealer Pen

Mac Paint Pot in Groundwork - to define eyes

Lancome Hypnose Doll Eyes Mascara in Black

Dior Rosy Nude palette - the pale peachy shade as a highlighter for the eyes

Suqqu - Brow Felt Pen in 02

Fushion Beauty Sculpting Cream Blush in Haute

The lips where a mixture of a few shades from my palettes to create a customised natural lip for Gemma - I wanted the perfect shade of natural lips but better!

Hope you like this beautifully simple look. I'm planning on making a 'no-make-up' make-up tutorial... is that something you guys would like to see? I'll include all my red carpet cheats for those of us who are not quite as blessed as Gemma in the skin department! X

UPDATE: The video is done! Watch it here.

I enjoyed this tioarutl but with the lighting it was a little bit difficult to see the colors. Also, my personal preference is to see still pictures of the look at the end because I think that offers the most details. I am a huge fan of your's though! I found you on Specktra 3 years or so ago and have been following your posts ever since! You are beautiful, keep up the good work!

Monica H - Monday Aug 6th 2012 11:55pm

Dear Ms. Eldridge! Please advise me about natural look. I use EL Doble stay concealer and Clinique Allmost powder on the top. I am going to try Lancome Eclat Lumiere illuminator but my problem is in what order should I apply?! Does illuminator goes on top of everything( after pressed powder)or just before concealer or after concealer but before powder? Thank you!

Ann - Sunday Jul 24th 2011 5:27pm

Karen Tong - Tuesday Jun 21st 2011 4:13am
Lisa, you did an absolutely amazing job on Gemma. I know you are beyond busy but it would be greatly appreciated if you can show us a 'no make up' video.

Georgina G - Monday Jun 20th 2011 6:44pm
Amazimg Lisa I love it! I remember seeing a no make-up look you did on Demi Moore a few years ago and thinking it was so beautiful. Gemma looks gorgeous (I love her talent too!) So excited for the tutorial...no one can do this look as well as you!

Vilma - Monday Jun 20th 2011 3:00pm
Yes, madam. Please, madam. A natural make-up. And also maybe some techniques to identify the colour that suits for lips and cheeks. It is so hard to find the righ colour and I am so far from perfect cheek blush colour. Would like to notice that after your tutorials I started to notice when the make-up colours do not suit for person's skintone...but so much to learn to know which suits.

Alida - Monday Jun 20th 2011 11:27am
Oh would love that! It would be so cool since I have MAC's Groundwork paintpot, would be cool to see how you use it :)

Eleonora - Sunday Jun 19th 2011 9:23pm

Gemma is one of my girl crushes. She really would look good wearing anything, I'm convinced. But this look is so so beautiful and earthy. I'm liking the Vitalumiere Aqua, I mixed it with some MUFE HD today and I liked it even more. I love that blush! And I can't believe you only used Groundwork for her eyeshadow, I wear that all the time by itself...definitely don't look like that though! I'd love a video, more the merrier.

prue - Sunday Jun 19th 2011 3:02am
I'd love to see a no makeup, makeup look. I like makeup that works for anywhere, and any day. It's all about making what you have stand out rather than changing what you have...so yes yes yes...would love more looks like this.

Louann - Saturday Jun 18th 2011 8:53pm
I'd love to see a no-makeup look tutorial! You always make such wonderful videos, with clear instructions, it's great! I've learned so much from you!

Jennifer - Saturday Jun 18th 2011 3:16pm
Looks so natural, so flawless, so beautiful. I love the fact that you didn't try to cover up her freckles! :-) I saw your previous video doing a tutorial with organic makeup (which was awesome, I want more!). I wonder, what's the difference between organic makeup, eco-friendly makeup, vegan makeup, animal cruelty-free makeup, natural- and mineral makeup?? It's so confusing!

Naomi - Saturday Jun 18th 2011 8:31am
Definitely! An almost no-makeup look is, I think, perfect for a first date or something more casual just so that you don't look too high-maintenance or "heavy" which seems to put certain guys off. And she's clearly beautiful naturally!!

Liah - Saturday Jun 18th 2011 5:03am
A tutoral about this one would beyond awesome

Jane - Friday Jun 17th 2011 10:40pm

Rachel - Thursday Jun 16th 2011 2:47pm
She looks so fresh and effortless. Love this look Lisa. Right after I watched your natural summer makeup video, I stumbled on the Fusion Beauty blush in Bella at TJ Maxx of all places and it only cost me $8! The texture is incredible. As always, thanks for your hard work in bringing us tips and advice. xx

nesli - Thursday Jun 16th 2011 2:45pm

veevee - Thursday Jun 16th 2011 7:03am
Yes, a 'no makeup' video please ! And could you also do a video on how to cover undereye circles ? I've tried lots of concealers, from drugstores to very expensive ones. None seems to be able to cover my circles. I also have to battle fine lines so i can't apply too thick a layer. Many Thanks.

Ploy - Thursday Jun 16th 2011 6:54am
You let her freckles show through and that's what makes you a wonderful make-up artist. Gemma's never looked lovelier and definitely "kissable" with a soft looking face like that.

Maggie - Thursday Jun 16th 2011 3:41am
Perfectly lovely. What a beauty she is.

Tigers - Thursday Jun 16th 2011 2:25am
A no-makeup makeup tutorial would be perfect! Lisa, how do makeup artists go about covering up models' dark undereye circles-- for example, Jessica Stam and Sasha Pivovarova have undereye circles in pictures without makeup, but on runways their circles look almost invisible. I have similar circles, so I'd love to know how it's done! Thanks!

annabanana - Thursday Jun 16th 2011 2:13am
i would love such a tutorial! i would love more than one!

C - Thursday Jun 16th 2011 1:50am
Please do a no makeup look on a variety of skin tones. So often either very pale or darker tones are used. There's a whole range in the middle and we are left out too often. Please include the tan ladies!

jensketch - Thursday Jun 16th 2011 1:12am
just like to add my chime to the mix, would love to see a no-make-up look like you did here. :)

Anna - Thursday Jun 16th 2011 12:54am
Wow. This is my idea of the perfect "no make up" make up look. Please, please, PLEASE do a video on this look Lisa! Thanks, Anna x

coco255 - Thursday Jun 16th 2011 12:07am

flyavsted - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 10:18pm
How is the Hypnose Doll Eyes different from the other Hypnose mascaras? Love the name of it. I currently have Hypnose Drama, Hypnose Precious and the original Hypnose and I love them all! ;)

Nina - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 9:56pm
Can't wait for the no make-up tutorial! Possibly with all natural/organic products as well?

shelleykerr83 - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 9:36pm
Yes Lisa I would love to see you do the no make-up look. I will be in London in September (I am from N. Ireland), are there any shops apart from the usual department stores that would be worth paying a visit? I am looking for little shops (eg for make-up or cute dresses) in the back streets that only the locals know about! Thanks Lisa x

Mania - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 9:01pm
I would say yes to "no make up" make up tutorial:)

Lind - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 8:46pm
What a stunningly natural look; she looks fantastic. My holy Grail is a "lip coloured" lipstick and I've yet to find it - Gemmas lip colour is perfect.

Joanna - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 8:45pm
It's funny how much make up takes to get that "no makeup" look. She looks gorgeous though! I love it.

ALEXANDRA BOBE - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 8:40pm

Lilly - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 8:22pm
A "no make-up" tutorial would be great for the summer, especially garden parties and outdoor weddings. It's nice to hear that Gemma is a genuine person, she looks like it.

Maria Martinsen - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 8:16pm
What a perfect make up! I would very much like to have that tutorial. I have NARS Sheer glow, which is a very natural foundation, but I guess I do not use it quite right. If you had it, could you do a no make up make up tutorial with that foundation? Than you very much for sharing all your knowledge!

Lataaa - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 7:58pm
A "no make up" make up tutorial would be awesome! But it may be hard to translate across all skin tones? Although knowing your video history and experience I think you can handle explaining it! Will keep an eye out for it :) Also, Gemma looks awesomely and naturally beautiful!

QuietDawn6 - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 7:53pm
This look is so amazing and enhances her beauty in the perfect way. Yes yes yes for a no-make-up-look tutorial.

Theresa - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 7:48pm
Lisa, I have met some highly respected make up artists - your approach to sharing/teaching your highly valuable knowledge is sooo lovely! Gemma Arterton is such a beauty and somehow you made her even more beautiful! I use Chanel Vita Lumiere Aqua #40 and like it v.much as i don't like a lot of make up. How did you apply it on Gemma? Fingers or Brush? I would love a tutorial on this look as well as one using an Asian model - I am from korean descent and I would love to see how you choose colors and work with the eyes & straight eyelashes!

Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 7:38pm

I just LOVE my bronzer! :) Thank you so much for your wonderful tutorials and pics. I look forward to new videos and posts as I just love your beauty aesthetic.

Natalie Doherty - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 3:50pm
Gemma is one of my beauty/envy icons. She is absolutely incredibly beautiful. I would love some natural make up videos. I hate to feel too made up but as I've got older find I need more make up to stop me looking washed out and a bit dull. I can never seem to strike a balance (or at least if feels that way).

Kim C - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 3:47pm
Absolutely gorgeous Lisa! She looks dewy and fresh and healthy - luv it!!!! Know you're super busy, but can't wait for next tutorial - just can't. Xx

That is stunning work. I think people forget how much effort it takes to find the products that can help you achieve the effortless beauty, especially here, you want her freckles to show (and they are beautiful!) Here you nailed it with an incredibly fresh, healthy and defined look. Awesome!

I'd REALLY like a no makeup makeup tute!! I'd also love to see a 'minimal products used' tutorial. My skin doestn' like a lot of makeup on it and my eyes are fine with eyeshadow but mascara causes problems. Maybe some tricks with using minimal products to give a similar/'finished' look? Gorgeous look Lisa! Amazing work as always!

Rita Iraqi Houssaini - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 2:48pm

Love the freckles showing through. When you do event makup like this, do you give your clients the lip product, or de-pot some for them?

dianne - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 2:43pm

Elysse - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 2:42pm
She just glows! I'd love to see an "no make-up" ma tutorial! I always try to do it, but feel I can't! It's the hardest one to achieve, particularly how to shade the eyes without makeing them look too shaded. Plus, whenever I decide to do a nma-ma , I notice a pretty little shadow I'd like to use or decide to custom mix my eyeliners to create a new colour.

jahukommm - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 2:41pm
yes yes yes! would love a no make up make up look! :) with maybe some tips for every skin type :)

Sarah Mac - Wednesday Jun 15th 2011 2:38pm
She looks beautiful Lisa. I saw the pictures of her and wondered who had done her make up as she looks so flawless. I'd love to see a "no make-up" tutorial please!
